Research and analysis published by the Competition and Markets Authority on 31 January 2019 suggests that it does. The CMA's report (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/775256/NHS_Quality_Concentration_-_CMA_Working_Paper_Series_TD_RW_4_A.pdf) finds that, where there is insufficient competition/patient choice, there is a higher risk of harm and recommends some measures which NHS bodies can take to minimise that risk.
